Intramural vein invasion
Active
Description
Venous invasion (VI) is a well-established prognostic indicator in colorectal cancers and associated with an increase in risk of distant metastases. PMID: 26933769 VI can be classified as either intramural venous invasion (IMVI) or extramural venous invasion (EMVI). IMVI is when a tumor cells are confined to veins within the bowel wall. EMVI is when tumor cells are present in veins outside the bowel wall. Either one or both may be present. The presence of EMVI is a strong predictor of adverse outcome.
