Description

Vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor/vascular endothelial growth factor (PDGF/VEGF) family and active in angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, and endothelial cell growth. PMID: 9205122 Serum VEGF-D levels are elevated in patients with lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare multisystem disorder that almost exclusively affects women and characterized by cystic lung destruction, tumors of the kidney (angiomyolipomas), and involvement of the axial lymphatics (lymphangioleiomyomas). PMCID: PMC2818417 Quantification of VEGF-D can be used to distinguish LAM from other cystic lung diseases. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
