Version 2.78

Description

Glycopeptide resistance is one mechanism by which Staphylococcus aureus may be resistant to antimicrobial treatment. Staph that have intermediate and heterogeneous resistance to glycopeptides are called GISA and hGISA, respectively. The presence of GISA and hGISA strains can be determined based on comparing vancomycin inhibitory concentration (IC) and teicoplanin IC, and once one of these strains is determined to be present, they can be distinguished based on the vancomycin MIC determined in a separate step.
