Frenum involvement site
Active
Description
A frenum is a thin fold of mucous membrane with enclosed muscle fibers that attaches the lips to the alveolar mucosa and underlying periosteum and provides stability. A frenulum is a small frenum. Various periodontal disorders can affect the frena, and the location of the affected frena may help guide treatment. In addition, specific frena abnormalities are associated with certain syndromes, including Ehlers-Danlos and oro-facial-digital syndrome. PMID: 23633765 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 23633765
