Description
Carbapenems are broad-spectrum agents frequently used in treatment of infections caused by gram-negative bacteria that are resistant to multiple drugs. In recent years, Enterobacteriaceae that are resistant to carbapenems (i.e., carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae or CREs) have emerged, causing serious concern due to the increasingly limited treatment options.
