Description

Clozapine is a drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia. It does not produce significant effects to the extrapyramidial nerves like other neuroleptics and is often effective in patients who were previously resistant to other types of schizophrenia medications. The primary active metabolites of clozapine are norclozapine and clozapine N-oxide. The average half-life of the N-oxide metabolite in plasma has been observed at 8.6 hours, lower than norclozapine which was observed at 19.2 hours and clozapine at 10.5 hours after which the drugs are excreted in urine via the kidneys.
