Version 2.78

Description

The small hydrophobic (SH) gene is one of seven genes contained within the single-stranded mumps virus (MuV) genomic RNA. The other six include nucleocapsid (N), phospho (P), membrane (M), fusion (F), hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN), and large (L) genes. At least 12 genotypes (A to N, excluding E and M) have been described based on genomic characteristics of the SH gene. PMID: 23637906 The SH gene is analyzed for genetic characterization of MuV and detection of MuV RNA in clinical specimens. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
