Version 2.78

Description

The OXA-48 gene encodes one of the three primary classes of beta-lactamase produced by Enterobacteriaceae. OXA-48 is mainly harbored in Klebsiella pneumoniae and occurs mainly in North Africa and Turkey. It has been identified in both nosocomial and community-acquired infections. PMID: 24930781 OXA-48 is a member of the OXA group of class D beta-lactamases which includes six subgroups that are able to hydrolyze carbapenem in different degrees and of which OXA-48 is a member. PMID: 24696435 Carbapenems are the most effective treatment against bacteria that produce ESBLs. PMID: 18495062 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
