Pentylone
Active
Description
Pentylone is a cathinone derivative, a stimulant that has been identified as a component of the drug mixture, NRG ("energy"), categorized as a designer drug or substance of abuse. The physiological, neurological, and toxic actions of pentylone have not yet been characterized (2017) but synthetic cathinones cause amphetamine-like effects. They are mainly used for social purposes but are also used for their stimulant properties as a replacement for illicit drug use. Effects of synthetic cathinones depend on the individual, the dosage of drug administered and the route of administration but the primary effects which make them attractive are increased alertness, sociability, effectiveness in work, euphoria, intense physical and sensory pleasure and a decreased appetite. The most common adverse effects are cardiac and neurologic. PMID: 26074740 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
