Pseudorabies virus glycoprotein 1
Active
Description
Glycoprotein I (gI) has a 130,000 molecular weight and is one of the major constituents of the envelope of pseudorabies virus (PRV) strain Phylaxia. Although gI is one of the major immunogens in vaccinated and/or virus-infected animals, one study showed that viruses resistant to anti-gI antibodies occur spontaneously in vivo and in vitro, therefore using gI as a subunit vaccine would not be beneficial. PMID: 3033885. Instead, since the majority of PrV vaccines now contain attenuated gI-deleted PRV and all tested isolates of PrV from field infected animals contain the gI protein, the presence of antibodies to gI appears to be the best method for verifying standard field virus infection. One study showed that exposure to the virus could be detected as early as day 7 and up to 141 days after field virus exposure. PMID: 2555390 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
