Version 2.78

Description

In Candida auris, the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region is located in the ribosomal gene. Assays targeting the ITS2 region have been developed to control and prevent the spread of C. auris and related species in healthcare settings. (http://jcm.asm.org/content/early/2017/05/18/JCM.00630-17) C. auris is an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast causing healthcare-associated infections with high mortality worldwide. PMID: 27634564 C. auris can survive on the exterior body (skin, hair, etc.) and on surfaces in the environment, causing transmission of C. auris from patient to patient. Some C. auris strains are resistant to all three major classes of antifungal drugs, which has not been reported before in other species of Candida.[CDC:fungal/diseases/candidiasis/candida-auris] Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
