Description

Zearalenone (ZEA), also known as F-2 mycotoxin, is a potent estrogenic metabolite produced by various Fusarium and Gibberella species. Zearalenone is known to cause toxicity in livestock as feed contaminant, often in co-contamination with deoxynivalenol and other trichothecenes. It also can affect reproduction of pigs because it possesses oestrogenic activity. PMID: 17364934 Prepubertal female pigs are most sensitive to zearalenone and can have reduced libido, plasma testosterone and other side effects. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
