Version 2.80

Description

Aflatoxins are naturally-occurring mycotoxins that are produced by many species of Aspergillus, a fungus, most notably Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. At least 14 different aflatoxins are produced, including B1, B2, G1, G2, M1 (metabolite of B1) and M2 (metabolite of B2). Aflatoxins, especially B1, are immunotoxic and carcinogenic to animals and humans. These myotoxins are most commonly ingested, however B1 can permeate through the skin. PMID: 22749975 Stunted growth and delayed development in children has been associated with aflatoxin exposure. PMCID: PMC116667 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
