Version 2.77

Description

The GATA2 gene encodes for a hematopoietic transcription factor that is vital for the proliferation and maintenance of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. GATA2 deficiency affects a variety of systems, including hematopoietic, immune, lymphatic, vascular, urogenital, and neurological systems. Mutations or deletions in the GATA2 gene are associated with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and inherited bone marrow failure disorders (IBMFS). Patients with GATA2-related MDS have also been found to have abnormal karyotypes, most commonly monosomy 7, der(1;7) and trisomy 8.
