Description

Pancreatic stone protein (PSP), also known as lithostathine-1-alpha, [UniProt: P05451] is a protein mainly secreted by the acinar cells of the exocrine pancreas. It is associated with islet cell regeneration and may be involved in pancreatic lithogenesis. Low levels of PSP are found in healthy individuals, but PSP concentration increases with severe infection and organ dysfunction. The measurement of PSP levels help identify patients with sepsis or those who are at risk of developing sepsis. PMID: 23399938 PSP also aids in discriminating non-infectious and infection-related inflammation. PMID: 23531337 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
