Description

Brivaracetam (BRV) is a synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) ligand that is a more potent analog of levetiracetam, the first SV2A ligand in a new class of anticonvulsants. BRV also inhibits neuronal voltage-gated sodium channels. It is useful for treating partial seizures, photosensitive epilepsy, and focal epilepsy. It is extensively metabolized into inactive metabolites and does not affect levels of other anticonvulsant medications. BRV has mild to moderate side effects including fatigue, dizziness, and somnolence, which generally improve with continued therapy. PMID: 26543353 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
