Cancer-associated gene Ab
Active
Description
CAGE-1 antibody is one of the several autoantibodies tested to detect various types of cancer in their early stages. The target protein for the CAGE-1 antibody is located mainly in the nucleus of cancer tissues compared to a much lower presence in non-cancerous tissues. The presence of the CAGE-1 protein being found preferentially in cancerous tissue leads to the speculation that it may be associated with tumor growth. The gene that encodes CAGE-1, which stands for cancer-associated gene-1, was named that because of its association with malignant cells.[https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167478102006206] Ongoing studies are investigating the utility of CAGE-1 being used as a biomarker for the early detection of lung cancer in high risk asymptomatic patients.
