Matrix metalloproteinases-9
Active
Description
Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) is a member of the gelatinase family, which are zinc-dependent endopeptidases that can break down any component of the extracellular matrix. MMP-9 is expressed by leukocytes in severely injured livers and in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). PMID: 25599939 MMP-9 plays an important role in the progression of tumors by cleaving heat shock protein beta-1 (HSPB1) and releasing anti-angiogenic fragments. PMID: 24465581 MMP-9 secreted by HCC cells forecasts an aggressively invasive and metastatic form of cancer. PMID: 20440771 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
