Orexins, also known as hypocretins, are neurotransmitters produced by a small group of neurons in the hypothalamus that play an important role sleep regulation. Reduced hypocretin-1 levels are common in patients with narcolepsy with cataplexy. PMID: 11983761 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
