Version 2.77

Description

Citrullinated peptide (CCP) is a naturally occurring protein that is produced during the metabolism of ornithine to arginine. CCP proteins are found in synovial tissue of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). High levels of antibodies to CCP have a strong association with RA and are predictive of an aggressive and destructive disease outcome. CCP antibody tests can help diagnose RA when the rheumatoid factor (RF) is negative or below 50 IU/mL.(Pagana, Kathleen Deska, and Timothy James Pagana. Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests. St. Louis, MO: Mosby/Elsevier, 2014. Print.) .) IgA to CCP is more elevated in patients with RA than levels found in healthy individuals or those with other rheumatic diseases. PMID: 18565246 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
