Description
Growth and differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) is a cytokine that plays an important role in regulating cellular responses to stress. GDF-15 has been associated with suppressing inflammation in various conditions such as cardiac ischemia and early pregnancy. It has also been identified as a biomarker for mitochondrial disorders and has been found to be more specific for disorders due to defects in mitochondrial translation and DNA maintenance.
