Description

Computed tomographic angiography (CTA) is a technique for imaging vessels (both arteries and veins). CTA provides is less invasive than conventional angiography and provides additional information, including: the vessel wall thickness, relationship to adjacent structures, enhanced depiction of the venous anatomy, and parenchymal information about the target organ and other structures. CTA is useful for characterizing vascular anatomy, diagnosing vascular diseases, planning treatment, and assessing treatment efficacy. The CTA process includes the acquisition of localizing (without contrast) and contrast-enhanced (with contrast) images, the reformatting of those images, and then the interpretation of both the source images and the reconstructions. A key difference between CTA and conventional CT is that CTA necessarily includes post-processing reconstruction of the angiographic images Source: Regenstrief LOINC
