Version 2.78

Description

Micrococcus sp are gram-positive, oxidase-positive, and strictly aerobic cocci that generally form pairs, tetrads or clusters. This varied genera includes the species M. luteus, M. lylae, M. antarcticus, M. endophyticus, M. flavus, M. terreus, and M. yunnanensis. They are commensal organisms on human skin, but are also found in dairy products and diverse environmental samples. When grown in a specimen, they are generally considered to be contaminants, but have proven to be opportunistic pathogens causing bacteremia, endocarditis, meningitis and other infections in immunocompromised patients [https://www.msdsonline.com/resources/sds-resources/free-safety-data-sheet-index/micrococcus-spp].
