Active
Description
Members of the Bacillus cereus group are catalase-positive, aerobic (or facultatively anaerobic), spore-forming gram-positive bacilli. The Bacillus cereus group is comprised of seven closely related species: B. cereus, B. mycoides, B. pseudomycoides, B. thuringiensis, B. weihenstephanensis, B. toyonensis, and B. anthracis. Organisms in this group have been largely considered a culture contaminant, however, have also been implicated in pathologies including pneumonia, sepsis, CNS infections, wound infections, and infection of intravascular devices, particularly in immunocompromised patients. B. cereus is associated with food poisoning due to toxin production PMID: 19200684. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
