Description

Glimepiride is a medium-to-long acting sulfonylurea anti-diabetic drug. It is marketed as Amaryl and Glista OD. Glimepiride is the first third-generation sulfonylurea, and is very potent. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus by increasing insulin production in the pancreas. Side effects include gastrointestinal tract (GI) disturbance, and rarely thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, and allergic reactions occur.
