PKD2 gene

Descriptions
Polycystin-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PKD2 gene.
Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
This gene encodes a member of the polycystin protein family, called TRPP1, previously known as polycystin-2, PC2 or APKD2. TRPP1 contains multiple transmembrane domains, and cytoplasmic N- and C-termini. The protein may be an integral membrane protein involved in cell-cell/matrix interactions. TRPP1 may function in renal tubular development, morphology, and function, and may modulate intracellular calcium homoeostasis and other signal transduction pathways. This protein interacts with polycystin 1 to produce cation-permeable currents

, PKD2 gene
The PKD2 gene (polycystic kidney disease 2 (autosomal dominant)) [HGNC Gene ID:9009] is located on chromosome 4q22.1. This gene encodes a member of the polycystin protein family. The encoded protein is a multi-pass membrane protein that functions as a calcium permeable cation channel, and is involved in calcium transport and calcium signaling in renal epithelial cells. This protein interacts with polycystin 1, and they may be partners in a common signaling cascade involved in tubular morphogenesis. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease type 2.
