Epstein Barr virus early Ab
Active
Description
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a member of the herpes-virus family and is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis(IM). EBV is one of the most common human viruses. Antibodies to the following antigen complexes can be measured: viral capsid antigen(VCA), early antigen (EA), and EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA). Early antigen antibodies are transient and may last only 1-2 months. EBV early antigen consists of two components: diffuse and restricted. Antibody response to EA in IM is usually to the D(diffuse) component, while silent seroconversion to EBV in children usually produces antibodies to the restricted component.
