Description
Galactomannan is a polysaccharide cell wall component in certain species of fungi. The assay is used for the early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis in immunocompromised patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and in patients with hematological malignancy. Other fungal sources galactomannan include Alternaria, Penicillium and Paecilomyces species, but these fungi are rarely seen in invasive disease. Source: Regenstrief Institute
