Descriptions
Mitochondrial Antibody is present in approximately 95% of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). Mitochondrial M2 Antibody has an even higher specificity for PBC. Source: Quest Diagnostics Inc., Mitochondrial antibody
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) are autoantibodies that formed against mitochondria, primarily those in cells located in the liver. The presence of AMA in the blood or serum is associated with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), which causes scarring of liver tissue confined primarily to the bile duct drainage system. AMA is present in about 95% of cases of PBC. PMID: 17326160 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
