Description
The U small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particles, including the U2 snRNP are central to the splicing of mRNA, and autoantibodies in patients with lupus (SLE) and other similar diseases often bind to epitopes on these particles. There is diagnostic utility to finding autoantibodies to specific types of ribonucleoproteins in patients' serum.
