Description
MDM2 gene amplification studies evaluate the number of copies of the MDM2 gene present in a single cell to aid in the differential diagnosis between well-differentiated liposarcoma and benign lipoma. Amplification is determined based on the MDM2 gene copy number and MDM2 to centromere ratio (CEP12). An MDM2/CEP12 ratio of >= 2 strongly supports a diagnosis of well-differentiated liposarcoma.
