Version 2.80

Description

Angiotensin (1-7) is an active heptapeptide (amino acid sequence: Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro) of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), a pathway involved in the regulation of cardiovascular physiology. It is part of a group of peptides with amino acid sequence and biological function similar to angiotensin-(1-8) octapeptide (Angiotensin II). The amino acid sequence of angiotensin-(1-10) decapeptide (Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe-His-Leu) serves as reference for all angiotensin peptides. PMID: 732249 Ang (1-7) is a product of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) 2 and can be produced from metabolism of both Angiotensin II and Angiotensin I via different pathways. Both ACE2 and Ang (1-7) are thought to have counteracting effects against other RAS components, such as angiotensin II. Several studies have found that Ang (1-7) and ACE2 have protective effects in the heart and blood vessels and could serve as therapeutic targets for cardiovascular disease.
