Tahyna virus is a species in the genus Orthobunyavirus, which also includes species such as California encephalitis virus, La Crosse virus, and Snowshoe hare virus. It typically causes flu-like illness in humans in the late spring and early summer, and rarely is associated with atypical pneumonia and viral meningitis.
