Mayaro virus is a species of virus in the genus Alphavirus, family Togaviridae. [https://talk.ictvonline.org/taxonomy/p/taxonomy-history?taxnode_id=201905095] The virus is a mosquito-borne, zoonotic and epizootic pathogen that causes both human and animal epidemics.
