Description

Oropouche virus (OROV) was isolated in approximately 1955 in Trinidad and Tobago PMID: 28167595. Following the discovery OROV has caused several outbreaks and infections in the Brazilian Amazon PMID: 31801869. OROV contains three single-stranded negative sense segments of genomic RNA. PMID: 28167595. OROV belongs to the family Peribunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus. The primary vector indicated is Culicoides paraenesis; however, Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex sp. mosquitoes are also associated with transmission.
