ArticleRegenstrief LOINCMicrosporum canis is a fungus that infects animals and humans across the globe. M canis causes dermatophytosis that is also known as ring worm. Skin lesions are characterized by the presence of circular patches of hair loss that are surrounded by a raised, red outer rim. The lesions are caused by inflammatory reactions to the fungus. Though cats and dogs are the natural host for the fungus, humans and other animals can also be infected. M canis infects hair, nails, or skin which transmit arthrospores to new hosts. The arthrospores can remain viable for up to 18 months. PMID: 30189676https://animalallergycolorado.com/animal-disease-index/ringworm
