Version 2.80

Description

Fodrin is a cytoskeletal protein in the spectrin family that consists of two subunits, alpha and beta. Fodrin plays an important role in providing structural support to the plasma membrane, activating transmembrane proteins, cell adhesion, exocytosis, apoptosis, organ development during embryogenesis, and regulation of angiogenesis. PMID: 32601107 Antibodies to alpha-fodrin may be a marker of Sjogren's syndrome. Studies have found variable results, but a meta-analysis found that IgA and IgG alpha-fodrin antibodies are specific but not sensitive for the diagnosis. PMID: 23639676 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
