Description
The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina), also known as the yellow-legged hornet, is a species of hornet native to Southeast Asia. It is considered an invasive species in certain European countries. PMID: 31700565 Vespa velutina stings can provoke allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Studies have shown that patients presenting with anaphylaxis have specific IgE (sIgE) against Vespula spp venom and its allergen components, Ves v 5 and Ves v 1. PMID: 32939859 Specific venom treatment is not available, although some success has been reported with using yellow jacket venom for immunotherapy. PMID: 23363701 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
