Anaerococcus prevotii and vaginalis are two species in the genus Anaerococcus, and were previously classified under the genus Peptostreptococcus. Anaerococcus species are Gram positive anaerobic bacteria and can be found as part of normal flora on the skin, mouth, and gastrointestinal tract. They have been identified as pathogens in skin and soft tissue infections as well as diabetic foot and pressure ulcers, bone and joint infections, abscesses in various locations, and blood infections.
