Normoblasts.oxyphilic+polychromatophilic/Normoblasts.total
Active
Description
The erythrokaryocyte maturation index (EMI) is the fraction of normoblasts containing hemoglobin (i.e., polychromatophilic and oxyphilic) out of the total population of normoblasts. A decrease in EMI index reflects a delay in hemoglobinization and the predominance of young basophilic forms, and is associated with iron deficiency and in some cases, hypoplastic anemia.
