Description
Periostin, also known as osteoblast-specific factor 2 (OSF-2), is a protein encoded by the POSTN gene. Periostin functions as a ligand to support adhesion and migration of epithelial cells. PMID: 12235007 It is expressed in collagen-rich fibrous connective tissues and is involved in osteoblast recruitment, attachment and spreading. Periostin is involved in tissue repair, cancers, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and in various inflammatory conditions. PMID: 29946533 Source: LOINC
