Description
Calbindin-D28k is an intracellular protein with high affinity for calcium. In the kidney, this protein is exclusively localized in the distal tubule and in the proximal part of the collecting ducts. Functionally, calbindin-D28k is supposed to be involved in the regulation of the reabsorption of calcium and possibly magnesium in the distal nephron though the exact regulatory mechanisms are not yet known.
