Acid fast stain.Kinyoun
Active
Description
The Kinyoun acid fast staining method is an adaptation of the Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) staining method. It is used to rapidly detect the presence of infectious tuberculosis patients, escpecially in developing countries. Kinyoun carbolfuchsin contains higher concentrations of phenol and basic fuchsin than the Ziehl-Neelsen stain and does not require heating. Acid-fast organisms appear red and non-acid fast organism stain blue. It is not as sensitive as some other staining methods.
