Infrared spectroscopy (IRS) deals with the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. IR stpectroscopy covers a range of techniques, absoption spectroscopy being by far the most common. Spectroscopic techniques can be used to identify single compounds and to establish the composition of a mixed sample. Infrared spectroscopy correlation tables are available.
