Version 2.80

Description

Plasma cells express the cluster of differentiation antigens CD38 and CD138. CD38 is expressed broadly across hematopoietic cells, but has a higher concentration on plasma cells than other cells. CD138 is present on the surface of malignant and non-malignant cells. CD138 is a valuable marker and more specific than CD38 for identifying plasma cells in bone marrow biopsies.(http://www.myelomapennstate.net/Contents/13-Diagnosis-2.htm) Source: Regenstrief LOINC
