Version 2.80

Description

After megakaryocytes discharge the cytoplasm to form platelets, megakaryocyte nuclei or nuclear fragments may enter the peripheral blood stream, particularly in conditions associated with marrow myelofibrosis. The nucleus is single-lobed or multi-lobed. Chromatin is smudged and surrounded by a very scant amount of basophilic cytoplasm or no cytoplasm at all. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
