1,5-Anhydroglucitol
Active
Description
1,5-Anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) is a metabolically inert polyol that is used as a marker of short- to intermediate-term glycemic control in patients with moderate- to well-controlled diabetes. When blood glucose increases beyond the renal threshold of 180 mg/dL, 1,5-AG levels decrease due to competition with glucose for renal absorption. Because the blood level of 1.5-AG inversely fluctuates so closely with the blood level of glucose, 1,5-AG is more accurate in detecting short-term blood sugar fluctuations than either HbA1c or fructosamine.
