Centromere protein B Ab
Active
Description
Major centromere autoantigen B, also known as centromere protein B or CENP-B, is encoded by the CENPB gene located on chromosome 20p13. CENP-B interacts with chromosomal centromeric heterochromatin and binds to a specific subset of alphoid satellite DNA, called the CENP-B box. [UniProt: P07199] CENP-B plays a direct role in stablizing CENP-C, which is a kinetochore assembly nucleator, and recruiting CENP-A, which marks and maintains centromere position. Chromosomes that have centromeres without bound CENP-B, including the human Y chromosome, are more likely to missegregate at much higher rates than chromosomes with CENP-B containing centromeres. PMID: 25942623 Autoantibodies to both CENP-A and CENP-B are markers for scleroderma and other rheumatic diseases. PMID: 17210244 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, UniProt: P07199
