Version 2.77

Description

The A wave represents the flow of blood through the mitral or tricuspid valve into the ventricle (ventricular filling) during atrial contraction. During the A wave, upper-case A represents the blood flow velocity (LOINC component: blood flow velocity.A wave) and lower-case a prime (a') represents the annular tissue velocity (LOINC component: tissue velocity.A wave). The A and a' waves follow the E (LOINC component: blood flow velocity.E wave) and e' waves (LOINC component: tissue velocity.E wave), which represent ventricular filling during early diastole, before the start of atrial contraction.
