Description
The sphere is the additional focusing power (as a positive or negative number) needed to focus the visual image on the retina. Negative diopters are required to correct near-sightedness, and positive to correct far-sightedness. The term is named "sphere" to indicate that the correction is applied in all meridians of the eye.
